Registration for the May 6, 2007, Primary Election should be done by the end of the first week in April. After that it is too late to register - However, you may already be registered. If you are registering to vote in the State of Indiana for the first time, you are required to provide documentation verifying your name and address.

In that case, please forward a copy of one of the following documents that contains your current name and current address printed on the document:

* Current and valid photo identification, such as your Indiana driver's license
* Current utility bill with your name and address
* Current bank statement with your name and address
* Current Government check with your name and address
* Current paycheck with your name and address
* A government document, other than Voter Registration card, that shows your current name and address

You will receive a Voter Registration card in the mail that will indicate your polling place.

Change Your Registration anytime you change your name or move from one address to another.

Please update your voter registration if your name has changed or if you have moved to a different address in Allen County. You will need to complete the Indiana voter registration application and submit it to the Allen County Board of Voter Registration.

Early voting

Indiana’s election laws allow voters to cast their ballots prior to Election Day. The earliest you could cast a ballot was October 8th.

Voters must be a registered voter and have one of the following:
. . . . . . a valid Driver’s License, State Issued photo ID, or Military ID.

Voting location is at the Allen County Election Board, located at 1 Main St. Room 136 in the City-County Building.

Absentee ballot

Anyone registered to vote in Fort Wayne who is unable to vote at their precinct on Election Day due to any of the following reasons qualifies to vote absentee:

Here’s how the absentee ballot process works:

  1. You have to request that an “absentee ballot application”. You can call Democratic Party Headquarters at (260) 478-8239 to request an absentee ballot application. Or you can download the application from the State of Indiana Website. Absentee Ballot applications are not accepted until August 8, 2007.
     
  2. After you return you application, a ballot will be mailed to you. However, no ballots are mailed out until September 27th, and then they are mailed out daily.
     
  3. You mail your completed ballot (do not forget to sign it) to the Election Board. Your ballot has to be IN the Election Board office my Monday, October 29th at midnight. Ballots arriving after that time, even with a prior postmark, are not valid.

PLEASE NOTE: If an absentee ballot is mailed to you, your name will be printed in the pollbook as having cast a ballot. You will not be allowed to vote at the voting machine in the polling location unless you obtain a certificate from the election board stating that you returned the ballot to them without voting it. You must present that certificate at the polls in order to vote on the voting machine.
