Star/WTHR poll: It's close in Indiana Democrats Launch a New 'Lie Counter' Site If any evidence were needed of the new, aggressive response by Democrats to Republican charges, a new Web site from the national party should dispel any doubts. The site, "Count the Lies," targets what the Democratic National Committee says are falsehoods coming from Sen. John McCain and the Republican Party. The total number keeps growing as independent groups and the media expose the number of unsubstantiated claims in his ads. Seizing on those reports, the new Democratic Web site sports a "Lie Counter," which the DNC says will increase every time McCain or his surrogates offer what it regards as an untruth. McCain aides have steadfastly stood by their ads and reject the criticism as biased and unfair. They say they are merely responding to months of harsh and unfair attacks from Sen. Barack Obama. Even Karl Rove cast doubt about some of McCain's ads on "Fox News Sunday" that McCain has "similarly gone one step too far, and sort of attributing to Obama things that are, you know, beyond the 100 percent truth test.'' Go to Count The Lies http://countthelies.com/ - another site Obama raised $66 million in August Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama raised $66 million in August, a record for a presidential candidate that illustrated his continuing appeal to donors and his robust outreach to new contributors. The campaign said it raised the money with the help of more than a half million, first-time donors. By comparison, Republican presidential nominee John McCain raised $47 million in August, a personal best for his campaign as well. The monthly figures for both candidates were especially noteworthy because August is typically a slow month for fundraising. Obama's totals, however, also underscore the challenge he faces in the remaining two months of the campaign. McCain, for now, has a significant advantage because he has accepted $84 million in taxpayer funds under a public financing system that Obama chose to bypass in favor of raising more money. Make a donation to Barack Obama John McCain says that he’ll take on the special interests and lobbyists, but McCain can’t fix a problem he’s been part of for three decades. The 500,000 new donors to the Obama campaign demonstrate just how strongly the American people are looking to kick the special interests out and change Washington. We are proud of the millions of volunteers and more than 2.5 million donors to the Obama campaign who are contributing to help us deliver the change we need instead of letting John McCain just continue the same failed Bush policies while middle class Americans struggle. Obama Campaign Held Veterans Forum
The forum covered Barack Obama's plan to fully fund and keep our VA medical facilities, expanding the number of veterans centers, and ensuring veterans have every opportunity to succeed following their service to our country. Attendees found out what Sen. Obama will do to make sure that the sacrifice America's veterans have made is being honored: by providing full, mandatory funding for the Veterans Administration; by allowing all veterans back into the VA; and by expanding care and access to Veterans health care. In contrast to Senator John McCain's history of supporting vets on the cheap, Obama will do what it takes to care for those who have served our country. He suggested we study the record of both candidates to see that Obama has done more for our veterans. Barack Obama and Joe Biden made a stop for dinner this evening at the Pier 32 restaurant on Indiana 1 on Hamilton Lake. According to the Journal Gazette, Obama bounded off of his campaign bus at 5:45 p.m., shouting to his running mate, "Biden! Let's get something to eat!" His call was met with applause from boaters in bikinis and sunglasses gathered in the parking lot, on the docks, in the landscaping and along the road - robert Great web site for election information to check out from the League of Women Voters: Vote114.org Walk a Day in My Shoes - Obama Courtesy of the Service Employees International Union:
OK - now we know it is Joe Biden and that is AWESOME ! ! ! Barack Obama has introduced veteran Senator Joe Biden as his running mate at a rally in Springfield, Illinois. Sen. Obama hailed Biden as a "man with a distinguished record and a fundamental decency". Barack Obama confirmed his choice of running mate overnight on his website and with a text message after the news began to leak to the media. (yea, I got mine Saturday morning.) Some in the Democratic campaign may be hoping Sen. Biden's presence will reassure voters who are concerned about Sen. Obama's relative inexperience, particularly in the international arena. As for me, I had no problem with Obama's intellect and ability to evaluate and learn from the best., Obama outlined Biden's accomplishments in the Senate, his blue collar roots and - above all - his experience on foreign policy. "He's an expert on foreign policy whose heart and values are rooted firmly in the middle class," Obama said. He also emphasised Biden's drive for change, despite his 30 years spent in the Capitol. "For decades, he has brought change to Washington, but Washington hasn't changed him," Obama said. He recounted the personal tragedy that struck Mr Biden more than 30 years ago, within days of his election to the Senate, when his first wife and their daughter were killed in a car accident. After being introduced, a shirt-sleeved Sen. Biden ran on to the stage and was embraced by Sen. Obama to cheers from the crowd. In his speech, Biden referred to his own short-lived bid for the White House against Obama for the 2008 nomination, before dropping out in January: "You learn about a man when you debate with him, you see how he thinks. Barack Obama has the vision and courage to make this a better place. He is a clear-eyed pragmatist who will get the job done." Sen. Biden, a 65-year-old veteran lawmaker, is highly respected on foreign policy and is a six-term senator who serves on the powerful Foreign Affairs Select Committee. He brings a breadth of knowledge and experience unmatched amongst the crop of finalists Obama was considering. He has represented the state of Delaware in the US Senate since 1972 and appeals to working-class Americans and was born in Pennsylvania, a key swing state in this election. Hillary Clinton issued a statement calling Sen. Biden "an exceptionally strong, experienced leader and devoted public servant". John McCain has reportedly not yet settled on a running mate - and that might just mean that no one wants to run with him.. largly from the BBC - but Roger has added comments. UAW President Ron Gettelfinger says McCain "is content to rely on the failed policies of President Bush," which Gettelfinger says cost millions of U.S. manufacturing jobs. Michigan Democrats picked Gettelfinger in June as an Obama delegate to the party's national convention, which begins next Monday in Denver. Gettelfinger issued a statement Monday saying Obama "is taking action to support American workers and American companies." Gettelfinger cites Obama's promise of $4 billion in low-cost financing for automakers to retool to make more fuel-efficient vehicles. Unfit for Publication One of the most vile smear peddlers of the 2004 election has found a new target. Jerome Corsi just published a new book full of rehashed distortions and the same old lies about Barack Obama, and the right-wing noise machine is in full gear promoting it. In 2004, Corsi helped launch the Swift Boat smear campaign with a book of distortions and lies he wrote about John Kerry. It’s up to you to spread the truth, so here it is. Obama posted some of the facts about Corsi and his desperate fabrications in this 40 page PDF book. A little research disproves even Corsi's most basic claims. August 06, 2008 Barack Obama in Elkhart, IN Town Hall Meeting Barack likes to tell a story about the two of us standing backstage before his speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention. The way he tells it, he was too busy in the days before the convention to feel any pressure - - but about an hour before the speech, I could tell he was getting a little nervous. To break the tension, right before he went out on stage I leaned in close and said, "Just don't screw it up, buddy." We laughed. And then Barack brought the house down. This year, the house is going to be a lot bigger. More than 75,000 people will be in Denver to be part of this important moment. - - - Michelle Obama Ecomomic Discussion in Fort Wayne by the Obama Campaign - Tuesday, July 29 Tuesday, July 29 - The commons Area of North Side High School was the location where five people representing the presidential campaign of Senator Barack Obama spoke on his economic policies. The first speaker was Kathy Davis, Indiana Lieutenant Governor under Joe Kernan. She spoke of the importance to Indiana of electing Barack Obama and introduced Gene Sperling, a top Obama economic advisor, who was called by President Clinton "the MVP" of his economic team. Gene B. Sperling is a Senior Fellow at American Progress. He served in the Clinton administration as the President's National Economic Adviser and Director of the National Economic Council. He was the third person to hold the role of chief economic adviser in the White House. More about Mr. Sperling Sperling was a leading economist with with the Clinton administration during one of the greatest periods of economic growth. He and the others advising Senator Obama have come up with even more and better ways to build our economy under the new set of economic problems that are facing our country. Barack Obama has laid out a detailed plan that offers both short-term relief and long-term solutions to help working families, including a $50 billion stimulus, of which $1 billion would come to Indiana, to stimulate the economy and help families dealing with rising gas and energy prices. Under his plan, every working family would also receive a $1,000 Making Work pay tax cut ($500 for individuals), and additional tax cuts to help families afford health care, mortgages, college and save for retirement. The other panelists, including former Fort Wayne Mayor Graham Richard, Councilwoman Karen Goldner and former state Department of Labor Commissioner Nancy Guyott told why they though Barack Obama had the best plans for the interests of Indiana citizens. They also answered questions from the audience with responses that demonstrated that Obama will do his best to help all Hoosiers and all Americans. This was the second such meeting I have attended and they both were significant in demonstrating that Barack Obama listens, gets good advice, is well grounded in his understanding and has a positive plan of action to turn the economy around to face our future needs. Obama's Campaign for Change has developed a strategy -- a very aggressive strategy -- that will only work if our millions of supporters continue to contribute their time and their money. That strategy will work, and it has to. The stakes are too high and the need for change too great. But victory is only possible with your continued help and it can't be done without you. We have seen and met Barack Obama in person and know that he has the It is most unusual, that at any time in any history, a special individual can step Barack Obama is that person.

I knew that the unthinking amongst us -- both white and black -- would call me all kinds of nasty names: racist, bigot, Republican. I decided ultimately I don't care because the era of race baiting ends on January 20, 2009. A strong, intelligent, inspirational African-American man will take the oath of office and ascend to the rank of "Leader of the Free World." I'm voting for Obama, not because of his skin color and certainly not because I agree with most of his positions. No, I'm voting for him because I believe he's an inspirational figure who transcends politics like a Kennedy, or yes, a Reagan.
